A new public-private push to boost recycling rates around the country has another supporter.

The Ball Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Ball Corp., is joining and funding the Recycling Partnership.

Ball joins the Alcoa Foundation, American Chemistry Council, American Forest & Paper Association, the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers, the Carton Council and Coca-Cola Co. in supporting the effort.

“We believe the Recycling Partnership is one of the most innovative and solution-based programs in the country,” said Jim Peters, vice president of corporate affairs at Ball Corp., in a statement. “It has the opportunity to become a game changer for recycling in the U.S.”

The partnership, a project of Curbside Value Partnership, is working at this point to gather support for its plans to promote recycling in targeted cities. The Recycling Partnership, which expects to begin work in July, will provide grants, technical assistance and education to help increase recycling.

Ball, based in Broomfield, Colo., makes metal containers.
