AUBURN HILLS, MICH. — An adhesive product made by Dow Automotive Systems, a Dow Chemical Co. business unit, was recognized byR&D Magazine as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced in the past year.

Dow’s Betamate 1630 structural adhesive is used to bond the body structure of automobiles during assembly and enables the use of dissimilar substrates, such as carbon fiber composites with aluminum or lightweight steel, to achieve a weight savings of 70-100 kilograms per vehicle, Dow said.

The product was evaluated for design, development, testing and production, Dow said. It was judged by an independent panel and R&D Magazine editors. It is one of five Dow products recognized with a 2014 R&D 100 award.

Dow said additional performance advantages from the adhesive include improved crash safety, durability, driving and handling characteristics, and reduced noise and vibrations.

Dow said the R&D 100 Awards identify and celebrate the top technology products of the year.

Dow Automotive Systems is a global provider of collaborative solutions and advanced materials for original equipment manufacturers, tier suppliers, aftermarket customers and commercial transportation manufacturers.
