Hilex Poly Co. LLC, a South Carolina-based maker and recycler of plastic bags and films, will be closing a plant in Elyria, Ohio, and letting 48 employees go.

In a letter to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Hartsville, S.C.-based Hilex Poly said it would begin laying off employees on Oct. 1. Employees would be placed on administrative leave and receive wages, benefits and holidays until Nov. 29.

The entire plant is expected to close. Hilex Poly identifies the plant as an Accutech Film plant in the letter. Accutech Films Inc. was one of three companies Hilex Poly acquired from Clondalkin Group in April, according to a news release. Accutech Films also has a location in Coldwater, Ohio.

The company notes that job losses are expected to be permanent. Employees are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights. The majority of the employees are converting or extrusion operators.

The letter did not give a reason for the closure, and messages left for the company were not immediately returned.
